Wiki created to help reverse engineer the GD-77

posted in: DMR, Ham radio | 6

Just a quick post to let anyone who’s interested know, that I have created a Wiki on by Radioddity GD-77 repository on GitHub, where I intend to document useful information about the GD-77 which may be of benefit to anyone reverse engineering or doing any other tinkering with the GD-77

See

I’ve also uploaded all the datasheets and other documentation I have about the internals of the GD-77, as well as uploading the Processor Spec file I created to allow Ghidra to import the firmware binary, and to show the MK22 internal register names

If anyone has any other related documents that I don’t have, please let me know.

    Hi,

According to the list of bugs GD-77:

    https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/Radioddity_GD-77/wiki/Firmware-bugs

    what about bug described

    https://www.rogerclark.net/radioddity-gd-77-firmware-3-1-8-dmr-display-bug/

which in 3.1.8 is annoying using every day GD-77. Is it fixed in v3.2 1?

AFIK, no bugs were fixed in version 3.2.1.
Version 3.2.1 was only released to comply with FCC regulations associated with operating frequency limits.

I have downgraded to version 3.1.8, since 3.2.1 decreases the functionality of the radio.

I asked some other people about the display bug, but it seems that not everyone has this bug. I think it could be related to using a duplex hotspot.

Do you have this bug all the time , e.g. even on simplex and when using repeaters (not hotspots) ?

    Roger,

Problem occurs when using a repeater or hotspot duplex. The problem appears quite often

    Ok.

I think perhaps the bug started in version 3.1.8 when they added something associated with FM DTMF caller ID.
AFIK, this is only used on FM, but is part of the code that displays the ID.

Did you try some older versions to see if the problem exists in those versions?

    Roger,

Before upgrade firmware to 3.1.8 I have used 3.0.6 and this problem not appeared. I received confirmed this bug from others users which use 3.1.8 and use repeater.

Can you try some other versions to see when the bug was introduced e.g. is it there in 3.1.0 ?
